30 Day BL Drama Challenge – [Day 10]

Day 10 prompt: Best Character Development

Oookkkkaayyy. This is a big one and right away quite a few different characters popped into my head to choose for this. The very first person that came to my mind was Arthit from SOTUS The Series. Arthit definitely grew as a character in SOTUS season 1, but his growth is best viewed as a whole across both seasons of SOTUS as well as the Our Skyy episode. Viewing his growth that way definitely puts Arthit at the top of my list for best character development.

But I feel like this prompt is asking for development across one season or show, and not three lol. Therefore, for best character development I choose Xiang Hao Ting from HIStory 3: Make Our Days Count.

HIStory 3: Make Our Days Count general information | ~BL•Drama~ Amino

Xiang Hao Ting went from being the mischievous, trouble making bully who gets bad grades, to being a young boy in love who tries to better himself so that he and the love of his life can be together forever. But then tragedy strikes and over the years he becomes a successful young man with multiple college degrees who is trying to live out the dreams that his former lover had. We see him as a person who is filled with grief yet never allowing himself the time to properly process those feelings.

Instead, he leaves his home to pursue higher education and major in all the things his past boyfriend wanted to study. He busies himself and never slows down because he doesn’t want to feel the pain of what happened. But he finally breaks down and we see him begin his journey of healing and finally moving on after six years.

The actor that Played Xiang Hao Ting was a superb actor and he was definitely the standout actor of the series. He played all facets of this character perfectly and I believed every moment of it.

The immature school boy? Check. Experiencing the emotions of falling in love for the first time? Check. Working hard to get into a good university and save enough money to move out on his own? Check. Showcasing the pain of losing a loved one? Triple check! Becoming a successful college graduate? Check. Becoming a grieving man who is still in love with his former lover? Check. Finally accepting the happenings of life and choosing to move on? Check.

Xiang Hao Ting was such a good character. You don’t have to like him. You don’t even have to like the series. But you’ve gotta admit that his personal growth was definitely one of the best in a boys love drama.
